This weekend I had the pleasure of raiding Lauren Barney's & Selena Mccartney's shoe collection, and let me tell you it rivals Imelda Marcos's infamous 3,000 pairs of clodhoppers. These ladies are the owners of Eloisa, a shoe haven and business where they lend out vintage/designer shoes to stylist and designers alike. They both began their careers in the shoe business as designers, and started collecting shoes for the pure joy of it. So if you are looking for a vintage pair of Charles Jordans or the latest Chanel chain wedges these are the ladies you should be running to, and I mean fast. Checkout the interview! This should make any shoe loving diva green with shoevy...Shoe Envy!

What is Eloisa? How did the two of you come up with the name and how did you meet?
WE'VE WORKED TOGETHER FOR 6 YEARS AS WOMEN'S FOOTWEAR DESIGNERS FOR CALVIN KLEIN, AND HAVE BOTH BEEN IN THE BUSINESS FOR NEARLY 10 YEARS. THROUGHOUT OUR TIME WORKING TOGETHER, WE FOUND THAT SHOPPING VINTAGE WAS THE MOST INSPIRING TO US. WE DECIDED FROM THEN WE WANTED A VINTAGE BUSINESS OF OUR OWN TO PROVIDE INSPIRATION TO OTHER DESIGNERS AND STYLISTS. ELOISA WAS SELENA'S GRANDMOTHER, SHE NEVER KNEW HER. SHE WAS A SEAMSTRESS WITH LITTLE MONEY, BUT SHE LOVED FASHION. SHE COULD LOOK AT A DRESS AND COULD CREATE THE PATTERN FROM SCRATCH ALMOST EXACTLY. SHE HAD 10 CHILDREN AND WANTED TO KEEP THEM FASHIONABLY DRESSED SO SHE LEARNED HOW TO IMPROVISE.
How long has Eloisa been around?
WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS PROJECT FOR OVER A YEAR, AND HAVE BEEN ACTIVELY UP AND RUNNING FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS.
Where do you find your pieces?
WE TRAVEL CONSTANTLY IN THE US AND EUROPE MOSTLY. SELENA IS FROM TEXAS, AND I'M FROM OHIO, SO WE TEND TO NAVIGATE THOSE AREAS VERY WELL. BUT MOSTLY, WE TRY TO FIND THE SPOTS NO ONE GOES TO...THE OFF-THE-BEATEN TRACK PLACES.
What should a women look for when finding the perfect shoe?
SHE SHOULD ALWAYS TRY THE SHOE ON FIRST. IF IT MAKES HER FEEL SEXY...BUY IT!
Which is more important fashion or comfort?
FASHION IS MORE IMPORTANT. COMFORT IS A PLUS.
Do you pick the outfit or the shoe first?
THE SHOE! THE OUTFIT NEEDS TO COMPLIMENT!
I heard a famous fashion person walked through the Eloisa doors and took a sneak peak. Who was it? I have to know.
WE'D LOVE TO KISS AND TELL, BUT WE HAVE CLIENT CONFIDENTIALITY WITH ALL OUR CUSTOMERS. LIPS ARE SEALED.
Which do you prefer, the stiletto, the kitten heel, the flat, the platform, or the now trending wedge?
WE DON'T DISCRIMINATE BUT IF WE HAD TO CHOOSE RIGHT NOW FOR ME IT WILL BE THE WOOD WEDGE OR PLATFORM.
S: FOR ME IT WOULD BE THE HIGH WEDGE. I'M LOVING MY NEW CHANEL CHAIN WEDGES!! I TOOK A NAP IN THEM THE OTHER DAY.
Do you have any style icons?
TO BE HONEST, NOT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR, NO. WE'RE BOTH LIBRAS SO WE CHANGE OUR MINDS
OFTEN AND ARE NOT DEAD SET ON ANYONE OR ANYTHING. HMM....
Where do you find style inspiration magazines, blogs, or what? Can you name a few?
ALWAYS MAGAZINES. I HOPE THEY NEVER GO AWAY. AS FAR AS BLOGS GO...OF COURSE YOURS QUENTIN!!!
WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE WITH BLOGS WE'RE LOOKING AT ALL DIFFERENT LEVELS. MEANING, COMMERCIAL AND NON-COMMERCIAL FOR OUR CLIENTS.
LAUREN LOVES TO LOOK AT HOME DESIGN BLOGS AND PHOTOGRAPHY BLOGS. SHE'S GOT A GREAT EYE FOR FINISHES, TREATMENTS, AND COLOR. WHEN WE WERE DESIGNING TOGETHER SHE COULD ADD ONE MINOR DETAIL, AND IT WOULD CHANGE THE WHOLE LOOK OF A SHOE.
S: I TEND TO LOOK AT STREET STYLE BLOGS. I'M MUCH MORE INTERESTED IN WHAT RANDOM PEOPLE ARE WEARING THAN WHAT THE SAME PERSON IS DOING EVERYDAY.
WE BOTH LOVE..
http://www.nowness.com/ WHICH KEEPS US IN TOUCH WITH FILM, FASHION, ART, DESIGN, ETC.
http://www.refinery29.com/ KEEPS US GROUNDED ON WHAT'S ACTUALLY OUT AT RETAIL AND WE FIGURE OUT WHAT THE EVOLUTION OF THAT MAY BE.
http://www.seaofshoes.com/ WE LOVE THE COLORS AND SHOE SHOTS IN THIS BLOG!!
AND WHO DOESN'T STILL LOVE http://thesartorialist.blogspot.com/
ALL IN ALL WE GET THE MOST INSPIRATION FROM TRAVELING. IT JUST SEEMS IF SOMETHING LOOKS RIGHT TO US, WE INVEST OURSELVES IN IT. WHETHER IT BE A HANDBAG, A PIECE OF JEWELRY, A HEEL, A PATTERN....WE DON'T GET TOO DEEP INTO IT AND WE DON'T TURN OUR NOSES UP TO ANYTHING. WE ARE FAR FROM PRETENTIOUS CREATIVES.
Who is your favorite shoe designer of any era?
CHARLES JORDAN AND NORMA KAMALI ARE TWO FAVORITES.
